Dear Friends,

As I write this, we are witnessing day six of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.  I pray that peace will come by the time you read this.  What a painful tragedy, what terrible suffering for so many people, and what danger as well to Europe and to all the world.  We must pray fervently for the people of Ukraine and for all world leaders in this most dangerous moment.  May reason and love conquer this evil.

Dear Friends,

Our readings this weekend once again are focused, sharp, and insightful to guide us along the ways of the Lord rather than the ways of the world. In the Gospel, Jesus is guiding us to a self-reflection or introspection preparing us to enter into the penitential and holy season of Lent.

Yes, Ash Wednesday is this week and our schedule of distribution of ashes can be found elsewhere in this bulletin and on our usual social media platforms.

Dear Friends,

Our readings this weekend offer some strong “marching orders” for us, who are disciples, brought into the family of God through the Blood of Jesus on the Cross. Perhaps for some they appear impossible.

Jesus says, “To you who hear I say, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. …Do to others as you would have them do to you. For if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? …love your enemies and do good to them, …then your reward will be great and you will be children of the Most High, for He Himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.”
