Dear Friends,
Summer is fully upon us, and as always it seems to be flying by. These months always involve a lot of cleaning and scrubbing and other projects for Holy Cross Regional. This summer is no different but there are several projects at school which will improve curriculum and allow our students the opportunity to excel in varied fields of learning. One of these is a new Innovation Lab. They also are the recipient of funding flowing from Covid spending by the government to improve the building amenities and security for all. Thanks to Mrs. Healy and all the school staff who are spearheading all these efforts.
The parish received good news last week that the Borough of Collegeville approved the needed permits to begin work on the renovation of our Confessionals in Chapel. We have been working with a carpenter and electrician to upgrade our Confessionals and to ensure conformity with requirements outlined in the Rite of Penance for the celebration of the Sacrament. I am hoping that work will begin very shortly. It will include an upgrade of the materials within the Confessionals as well as separate entrances for the penitents and for the priest confessors. This project has been something in the works for many, many months.
We also are re-engaging with a contractor regarding the seating in Chapel and other aspects to refreshen and upgrade it. The present kneelers and seating have worn out and the walls certainly need fresh paint. We began looking into all of this work before Covid; it is good to now move forward with these efforts.
The theme of hospitality runs through our First Reading and Gospel this weekend. This was an essential characteristic of the Israelites as well as others living in the Near East. It is also an essential virtue of disciples. We have received everything as a gift from God. Imitating Him and His generosity involves us with giving of ourselves in fellowship and friendship. That is why we see our parish anchors, that is the way we will succeed as disciples to involve each of us in “offering a ‘welcoming and hospitable environment, fellowship that develops authentic community, and friendship leading to discipleship.’”
Being friends with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ moves us to friendship with our brothers and sisters to help each other become more intentionally and more passionately disciples of Jesus, bringing Him and His light to the whole world.
God bless you, God love you,
Monsignor McCulken
