Lectors proclaim (read) the First and Second Readings at the Saturday evening and Sunday Masses and other special celebrations.
This ministry involves adequate preparation that includes personal study, prayer, and practice. The reason is simple: Unless the readings are well spoken with understanding and faith, people will not be able to hear God’s voice speaking through the sacred texts so to be truly nourished by God, Who is present in His Word.
The ministry of lector, proclaiming God’s Word in the liturgical assembly, is intimately connected with the mission of preaching. Lectors are called to a deepening relationship with God through His words in Scripture, the treasured legacy that has been preserved and handed down for thousands of years.
